Our Oak Park Avenue Bench

In commemoration of our 75th Anniversary, St. George has sponsored one of the annual benches on Oak Park Avenue. This year's theme is "Classic Television" and our Flintsone's bench can be found in front of the fountain on Zabrocki Plaza (right across the street from Sam n Jake's).

We hope all parishioners will stop by and take a look at this fantastic piece of art work. Be sure to take a picture sitting on the bench when you visit!

The bench will be on display through October. When the display ends, we will move the bench onto the St. George grounds for young and old to enjoy for years to come!

In commemoration of our 75th Anniversary, St. George is hosting a special Mass for all couples married at our church over the years. During the Mass, couples will have a chance to renew their vows. Whether you're celebrating your 1st, 7th, 25th, 34th anniversary....whatever the milestone mark may be, we hope you will join us for this special Mass to celebrate where your life as husband and wife began!

Our Lady of the New Millennium

On Sunday, June 7, 2009, St. George will welcome Our Lady of the New Millennium to our parish in commemoration of our 75th Anniversary.

From the Archdiocese's website:

The statue of Our Lady of the New Millennium, commissioned by the late Carl Demma, was inspired by his lifelong devotion to Our Blessed Mother. The stainless steel statue stands 38 feet tall and weighs over 8,000 pounds.

Pope John Paul II blessed the statue during his visit to St. Louis in January 1999. Ingeniously transported on a flatbed truck and raised by custom hydraulics, Our Lady of the New Millennium has since visited hundreds of parishes and religious communities in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Many events are scheduled during the two-week devotional visit of this statue:

Sunday, June 7: Welcome Reception (Cahill Center). Father Fleck will lead that parish in prayer.

Annual Dinner Dance

On Saturday, March 28, the annual St. George Dinner Dance was held at Georgio's in Orland Park. Of course this year it was an extra special evening as hundreds of parishioners toasted the 75th & 60th Anniversaries of our Parish and School, respectively. Our parish participated in this year's annual Tinley Park Irish Parade in celebration of our church's 75th Anniversary and our school's 60th Anniversary. Dozens of our faithful marched down Oak Park Avenue on a brisk March morning. You can check out an album of pictures from the day HERE.

Feast of St. George Mass

On Thursday, April 23rd, St. George will welcome Fr. Richard Fragomeni as celebrant of a special Mass at 7:00 pm in honor of our patron saint. Fr. Fragomeni will speak about the life of St. George during his homily and will have a relic of the saint to present as well.

Following the Mass, all are welcome to attend a reception in the Cahill Center to enjoy cake and coffee. This special Mass is sponsored by the 75th Anniversary Committee in honor of our Jubilee Year!

St. George Parish Mission

We have the pleasure of welcoming back Fr. Thomas McCarthy this year to lead our three-day Parish Mission. Fr. Tom is Principal and President of St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago and a gifted speaker. We hope you will be able to join us for this event as we gather to learn and grow as a parish.

During the mission, Fr. Tom will be addressing the topics of “Saints, Prayer and Family.” It’s going to be an extraordinary time of prayer, celebration of family and friends, and the real heroes of our faith!

Rosary Rally-Saturday, November 1st

St. George will be hosting another Rosary Rally to pray for our country and leadership on Saturday, November 1st.

We will gather at 11:30 am in the Cahill Center and then process north on Oak Park Avenue to Zabrocki Plaza (near the water fountain.) The rally will begin at Noon.

The St. George faithful were honored to welcome Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller as celebrant of the Opening Mass of our Diamond Jubilee. On behalf of the entire 75th Anniversary Committee, thank you to all who joined us to celebrate Mass and continued the celebration at the reception. It was a joyous occasion filled with love for the parish so many of us are honored to call ours!

Bishop Gustavo comes to Tinley Park!

St. George is honored to welcome Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller as celebrant of our Opening Mass on September 28, 2008. For those of you not already fimilar with Bishop Gustavo, here's a little background on our Vicariate's Auxiliary Bishop.

Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S., was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, December 21, 1956. His first years of education and high school took place in his hometown.

Prior to his appointment from Pope John Paul II as Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago, Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller lived religious life within the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. This Congregation and its members see themselves primarily as contemplative and secondarily as active ministers. Within the community, he earned advanced degree in Developmental Psychology, Theology, Philosophy, and a Master in Divinity and Certification as a Formator.

In 1990 Bishop Gustavo was missioned as a pioneer presence for his Religious Congregation in the United States where he was involved in leadership and formation ministry. He served as the Major Superior for the USA-Canada Province, as a faculty member at Mt. Angel College Seminary and Theologate, Rector of the college formation House for the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. In addition to his leadership and formation assignments, he was extensively involved in retreat work and spiritual direction that spanned Mexico, Canada and the United States. Bishop Gustavo has authored numerous articles on spirituality and contemplative life.

In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, architecture and soccer.
